The research activity is part of a research project PRIN 2009 and regards the experimental investigation and finite element analysis of welded joints. The investigated joints have applications in the shipbuilding. The fatigue tests will be carried out to assess and compare the high-cycle fatigue strength of the welded specimens, realized in the first phase by means of traditional (Metal Inert Gas, Metal Active Gas) and innovative welding techniques (Friction Stir Welding and Explosion Welding). The different mechanical strength of the weld metal, HAZ and base metal will be investigated through the application of a technique, based on the digital image correlation (DIC), that allows to assess the displacement field on the all specimen surface and the localized strain concentration during the tests.
