Study on the action of 3,5-diiodothyronine (T2) on the adipose tissue in an animal model of insulin – resistance

In higher organisms metabolic homeostasis requires an efficient communication between organs. Hyperalimentation or high fat diet (HFD) may affect endocrine signalling pathways and induce metabolic dysfunctions. T2 is able to inhibit the fat accumulation in rats treated with a HFD. In addition, T2 is able to reduce cholesterol and triglyceride serum levels and to prevent insulin – resistance induced by a HFD. Little is known on the effects induced by T2 on adipose tissue. The aim of the project is to investigate on the effects elicited by T2 on the adipose tissue (white / brown) of rodents. To this purpose are required skills in bioenergetics, endocrinology, cellular physiology and in particular of thyroid hormones analogues / derivatives.
