Study of phosphodiesterase system during cardiac hypertrophy: neuro-endocrine functional and molecular modification in the cardiomyocites

Please note that the job is no longer active!

Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) are essential for erection. Erectile dysfunction (ED) is associated with loss of SMCs and increase of fibrosis in corpora cavernosa. The type 5 phosphodiesterase (PDE5), the target of the most common drugs used in the treatment of ED, is implicated in the regulation of SMCs differentiation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the psychological and sexological characteristics of patients assuming the inhibitors of PDE5 (PDE5i). In fact, we believe that the positive effect of PDE5i on erectile function not only can improve erection and sexuality, but also mood, reflective and mentalization functioning, relationship and couple aspects. In this regard we use specific psychometric tools to assess erectile function, mood, mentalization capacity and relationship life, during specific phases of pharmacological treatment.
