Numerous historical gardens occur in Campania Region (Italy), dating back to various historical periods and interwoven with the history of the Region. Aiming at studying historical botany in Campania, as well as at improving fruition of historical gardens by scientists and local and extra-regional visitors, the most representative historical gardens of the Region will be studied. The gardens will be investigated according to different viewpoints, among which the examination of ancient building plans, the study of their first set-up, the transformations undergone in time and their management. In addition, the species present in the gardens, their geographic origins and the history of their introduction in Campania will be analyzed. Coltural requirements and main pathogens will be taken into account as well. Pest control will be programmed following state-of-the-art biological principles.
