Optical atomic clocks for terrestrial and space applications

The project consists in the development of methods for sensors based on ultracold atoms, in particular optical atomic clocks. The research activity will include an experimental part, to evaluate and improve the sensitivity and accuracy limits of existing laboratory apparatuses; moreover, technological developments will be carried out towards the realization of transportable sensors with similar performance, as well as the study of possible applications in the fields of telecommunications, metrology, geodesy, fundamental physics. The candidate must have research experience in the fields of atom optics and high resolution spectroscopy.
