Scope of the research activity is to design and implement architectures and algorithms for autonomous navigation of mobile air or ground robotic vehicles acting alone or in coordinate teams in indoor or outdoor structured, partially structured or unstructured environments. Architecture and algorithms will be applied to rover navigation for terrestrial and aerial navigation, active surveillance and monitoring and for all those services requiring mobile autonomous agents inside industrial or domestic space, as well as spatial exploration. In particular, the activities include: robot simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM); optimal path-planning; specific task performance in the explored environment, as surveillance and physical parameters measurement; optimization and distributed estimation of these parameters and rover pose; 3D vision systems and non-conventional sensors use
