The aim of PRIN2009 is to study short-term effects of air pollution on the risk of thrombo-embolic diseases and to clarify the relationship between exposure, biomarkers and disease outcomes using epidemiological data on air pollution and health. The project VIIAS focuses on Integrated Environmental and Health Impact Assessment in Italy. It uses exposure modelling and epidemiological effect estimates, to determine the impacts of pollution on mortality and morbidity. The researcher for the present project will estimate through a case-crossover design the short-term effect of air pollution on thrombo-embolic diseases fitting generalized linear models. The researcher will estimate the natural direct effect of epigenetic markers on the frequency of respiratory disorders in childhood. Appropriate causal models will be used. The researcher will fit Bayesian geostatical models to air pollutants’ concentrations data and estimates uncertainty will be validated using non parametric approach.
