As a part of the Futuro in Ricerca project “Low environmental impact high-pressure photoinduced syntheses of energy vectors”, transient spectroscopy techniques will be developed, both in the ground electronic state and with electronic excitations, for the investigation of dynamic properties of molecular systems under high pressure. Application to samples in high-pressure cells entails remarkable experimental challenges due to the small dimensions and high density of the sample and to the interaction of light with the materials of the cell. The case study for which the setup will be initially optimized is water, a molecule of primary importance for our planet where it is found for a large part in high-density conditions, and also photochemical activator and reactant in the high-pressure synthesis of molecular hydrogen. The investigation will be then extended to clathrate hydrates of hydrocarbons and other systems of energetic and geological interest.
