Development of targeted magnetic-optical nano-carrier for the treatment of solid tumors with chemotherapy and hyperthermia.

The project intends to develop a new pharmaceutical product for the treatment of human solid tumors. This product exploits the ability of hyperthermic and chemiotherapic treatment. In the project magnetic and/or gold nanoparticles will be developed and linked to different targeting units depending on tumor models. The nanoparticles will be loaded with antitumoral drugs.

The selected models are: 1) pancreas adenocarcinoma and esophageal-gastric junction and/or gastric carcinoma using as target hERG (human ether a gògò related gene); 2) head and neck carcinoma using as a target the EGFR.

The research includes evaluation of: cellular uptake of nanoparticles functionalized with and without antitumoral drugs; cell and tissue toxicity in mice; biodistribution by MRI; effects of hyperthermia on in vitro experimental models using indices of vitality and cell proliferation.
