Male infertility affects 30% of all couples. Sperm DNA fragmentation has emerged as a strong new biomarker of semen quality. During last 10 years a relationship between sperm DNA fragmentation and pregnancy loss after in vitro fertilization has been found. Available data are heterogeneous because there are some variation in study characteristics including the use of different assays and the definition of pregnancy loss. The purpose of the study is to find a link between sperm DNA fragmentation and early post-implantation development in couples undergoing assisted reproductive techniques.
Sperm fragmentation will be evaluated by double staining with TUNEL and propidium iodide (PI). The use of both these methods show strongest correlations between fragmentation and pregnancy loss
