The project aim at isolating and characterizing primary tumor cells from patients suffering from osteosarcoma (OS), a primary tumor with high malignity. Such primary cultured OS cells will be characterized by means of cellular and molecular biology assays. Further characterization will be carried on by means of genomic and post-genomic approaches, paying particular attention to the analysis of the secretome (the complete repertoire of secreted cellular protein/peptide/cytokines) of OS primary cells and cell lines, in order to identify novel highly sensitive and specific OS biomarkers.
Finally, we will evaluate the efficiency of new generation as well as conventional chemotherapeutics, alone and in combination, toward OS primary cells.
