The main objective of this project focuses on the analysis of the mitochondrial genome in selected basal-hexapod lineages, in order to obtain a phylogenetic reconstruction inclusive of key groups of arthropod’s life history. Traditionally considered no-true insects, members of the orders Protura, Collembola and Diplura, represent the early attempts of hexapods to gain full confidence with terrestrial life-style. In the last few years, the sequencing of the mitochondrial genomes, from some of these latter taxa, has provided preliminary useful phylogenetic information on their closer relationships with other arthropod’s lineages. In this project, additional mitochondrial DNA data will be collected, in order to obtain a more detailed and species-dense phylogenetic reconstruction. Modern molecular techniques, such as PCR, cloning and Shot-gun sequencing will be applied to generate a large set of DNA data
