Workers, trade unionists and professionals. Educational and cultural female models between the two world wars

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The research analyses how women entered the working life by means of their cultural and professional education in the period between the two world wars, and aims to trace the borders of the educational and professional areas in which women managed to find their way to emancipation. Between the two world wars european governments developed politics of state intervention, both in a democratic and in a totalitarian sense according to their political orientation, and these politics affected in different ways women in their family and working lives.
Italian fascism on the one hand stated that women should have had a subordinated position in the society and stressed on their role as mothers and wives; on the other hand the regime asked women to be heroic and patriots and to participate in the public life. As a case study the research will focus on the history of university female students since 1931 when the female sections of the Fascist University Groups were created.
