Replication in science: a game-theoretic approach

Please note that the job is no longer active!

From the social point of view, it is “true” scientific knowledge that matters. Although honest errors are common in science, the traditional view of the working of scientific community hinges on the occurrence of replication activities to justify the confidence in science ability to self-correct. From an economic point of view, what is crucial is to understand the incentives of scientists towards replication of colleagues’ results. The aim of this project is to develop one theoretical model that, using game-theoretic tools, will study the interplay between the incentives towards replication and the incentives to provide accurate, or reliable, results, by assuming that scientists trying to produce new findings can invest (time and resources) in order to reduce the probability of errors, with such investments depending on the expectations on the probability of replication activities.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
