The research project focuses on Pseudo-nitzschia multistriata, an ecologically important species in the Mediterranean Sea that is an excellent model diatom mainly because of its short life cycle and the controllable genetics. These features are not shared by other diatoms studied in the laboratory. We are sequencing the genome and the transcriptome of Pseudo-nitzschia multistriata in order to consolidate this species as a genetic model organism, to pave the way for functional genomic studies and to explore in details its metabolic properties. The candidate will contribute to the analysis, annotation and data-mining of sequencing data generated. The candidate will be required to spend a short time in the UK at the genomic institute with whom we collaborate in order to receive training appropriate to the type of analysis to be performed

To participate in the competition, candidates must possess the following qualifications: Degree in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Informatics, Bioinformatics, Functional Genomics or disciplines related to biology, bioinformatics, informatics and statistics. Knowledge of the English language is required and basic experience in programming in Unix is strongly desirable. These requirements must be fulfilled on the date of expiry of the deadline for submission of applications for admission to the selection. The exclusion from the selection, for lack of necessary qualifications, shall be introduced by decree notified of motivated
Competition based on qualifications and colloquio. La assessment of the candidates will be conducted by a special jury, which will examine the qualifications and the performance of an interview aimed at ascertaining the candidate's professional expertise in scientific, as well as his attitude to carry out specific research subject of the application
To better plan and organise their stay in a foreign European country, researchers and their families can also benefit of the free and personalised assistance offered by the EURAXESS Services Centres, a network of more than 200 centres located in 40 different European countries.
