EU FP7 THEME [KBBE.2012.3.2-01] PharmaSea: Increasing Value and Flow in the Marine Biodiscovery Pipeline

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The PharmaSea project focuses on marine biodiscovery research, development and commercialization and brings together a broad interdisciplinary team of academic and industry researchers and specialists to produce new products for development in three accessible market sectors, health (infection, inflammation, CNS diseases), personal care and nutrition. The present contract will be devoted to mine the diversity of phytoplankton for biodiscovery purposes and will develop new technologies for innovative culturing approaches to increase the production of secondary metabolites. Many enzyme-coding genes involved in the secondary metabolism pathways present in genomes are “silent” and produce no recognised metabolites under standard conditions. The aspiring contract will use transcriptome analyses to determine the hidden metabolic diversity of selected marine microorganisms and the influence of the culture conditions on the production of the secondary metabolites of interest.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!

The candidate must have experience in molecular biology techniques (extraction of nucleic acids and PCR amplification, oligo design, gel electrophoresis of nucleic acids, gene expression with Real Time PCR, western blot protein analysis, sequence analyses). The candidate must have experience in maintaining algal cultures. The candidate must be perfectly fluent in English (written and spoken). These requirements must be fulfilled on the date of expiry of the deadline for submission of applications for admission to the selection.
