The research project is designed to analyse the animal bones and teeth assemblages from ritual contexts that have been excavated by the department of Cultural Heritage (Beni Culturali). In particular they refer to the Phoenician-Punic sanctuary of Tal Silg (Malta), to the Plutonium of Heirapolis (Turkey), and finally to the messapian cult-places of Vaste, Fondo Melliche (Italy) and Muro Lecce, Cunella (Italy). The main aims of the project are to compare the findings from different chronological and geographical perspectives and to interpret them in the more general context of animal offerings in the Mediterranean world.
