Fellowship & Grant details

Fellowship posted by Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (26/10/2012 02.50)

Dickens's legacy. Thematic models, literary myths and urban explorations in English narrative after 1870.

Please note that the job is no longer active!

The death of Dickens in 1870 didn’t imply the end of his literary inventions, since his heritage has been widely identified and disseminated in the works of those auhors who, openly or not, have had a great debt towards him.
The project will analyze the heritage of Charles Dickens in three different fields, trying to understand the cultural relevance he had in the decades after his departure, as well as the importance of his literary inventions in the XX century and in our contemporary world.
The issues that will be taken into account will be his interest in the social problems of his age, that in the last decades of the Victorian Age will expand to the “new woman” question; the role of the Empire in his works and in the works of many authors of the following generations; the urban imagery, with the vision of London that Dickens contributed to create.

Please note that the full description may be available in the national language since some job boards have their own publication policy. Thank you for your understanding!
