Synthesis and characterization of nanostructured/composite materials consituted by simple and complex metallic hydrides to be used in Li-ion batteries. The preparation routes will be carried out by top-down or bottom-up approach: mechanochemical methods and advance chemical synthesis routes will be adopted, respectively. The innovative materials will be characterized by electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), X-ray diffraction and electrochemical techniques such as galvanometry and voltammetry. These experimental will be carried out in electrochemical semi-cells using lithium metal as counter and reference electrodes and non-aqueous electrolytes. Most-promising materials will be also studied by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance in order to investigate nucleus mobility (ionic diffusion), to elucidate their chemical first/second-neighbors shells, and to describe the solid state transformations that occur upon lithium electrochemical incorporation
