In Lithuania, young first-time job-seekers are gaining valuable experience in the ‘Youth Employment Increase’ project
Young Lithuanians are getting the chance to gain the key ‘work experience’ that employers value and which opens doors to job offers. With ESF support, under-29-year-olds seeking their first job can get subsidised work placements where they can learn to adapt to working life while demonstrating their skills to potential employers. The EUR 5.79 million project kicked off in August 2012 and covers all of Lithuania. In the first month, some 430 young people were taken on – many of them graduates – and the eventual aim is to offer support to 6000 young people. It is expected that many will move on to permanent jobs afterwards.
