ESF project promotes social entrepreneurship for welfare and employment in Finland

Testing out the benefits of ‘social enterprise’ is at the heart of a project launched by the Diaconia University of Applied Sciences and the Aalto University School of Economics in Finland. With ESF co-funding, the project will investigate how social entrepreneurship can contribute to more versatile welfare services and employment. The objective is to improve conditions for social entrepreneurship in the province of South Savo over the next two years by developing employment services and home-care services respectively in two towns, Mikkeli and Pieksämäki. The project will also organise communication and training events. Finland already has some 5 000 social enterprises at present.
