A 24-7 sign-language translation service is helping workers with hearing difficulties to integrate better at work
Workers with hearing difficulties are benefiting from a successful sign language translation service in the Czech Republic. Conceived by the Agency for the Deaf, the non-stop service is frequently used by employers to help deaf colleagues participate in business meetings and communicate better with colleagues and management in a variety of situations.
Using real-time video-conferencing, operators are dealing with some 1400 situations a month – mostly related to employment issues. The Agency translation service – which is co-funded by the ESF – is staffed by seven interpreters, supported by employment and legal consultants. Its purpose is to overcome the obstacles deaf people face in the jobs market and help them to get employment suited to their potential and qualifications.
