In France, prizes are available to young job-seekers who ignore gender stereotypes
In the Alsace region in France, the ESF is co-funding three prizes that aim to encourage young men and women to choose less gender-related professions. The ‘Apprentice prize’ rewards young women who take an apprenticeship in a male-dominated profession. The other prizes are for young women moving into scientific and technical professions; and young men who opt for a career in the caring professions. For each category, there are 20-30 prizes of EUR 1000 made available each year. The objective of the organisers is to provide new role models and achieve lasting changes in attitudes to job choices and equal opportunities.
