Vouchers for work

The Netherlands launches a voucher scheme to encourage employers to take on young people

Since 1 November employers in the Dutch province of Friesland can get help from the ESF to offer work to unemployed young people. The ‘Youthvoucher’ scheme offers a subsidy of €2500 for each young person taken on for at least six months – up to a maximum of three per company.

The initiative is part of the Dutch action plan for combating youth unemployment and has the aim of providing work experience to young jobseekers and, eventually, as many permanent jobs as possible. It is also being launched in other provinces; a particular aim is to attract young people who are not registered with the employment services, disadvantaged, or living long distances from the labour market.
