Italian region favours jobs, business and tourism with training that is targeted at local needs
As the summer holiday season gets under way, the Italian Province of Grosseto is celebrating the completion of a successful ESF project to boost employment and skills in its tourism sector.
Aimed at unemployed adults, the project’s professional training course was implemented in co-operation with local hotels and involved giving participants the wide variety of skills that customer-facing jobs in the hospitality sector require. Technical skills are no longer sufficient explained Dr Fabrizio Sandri, director of the training course. “It is the crucial ability to relate to the customer who demands more and more.”
After 11 months of training, six of the 10 students have already found work in local hotels – confirming the organisers’ belief that well-designed training which is anchored in the needs of the locality is effective for boosting employment.
