In the past years, ESF support has helped finance over 1400 projects to improve employment and social needs in the Alsace region
On 9 May the Prefect of the Alsace region, Stéphane Bouillon, celebrated Europe Day by visiting the ‘Le Petit Gourmand’ restaurant in Strasbourg – a social enterprise which has offered work and training to 180 people who find it difficult to enter the labour market.
Employees at the restaurant get training in the procedures and hygiene needed for kitchens and dining rooms, while providing meals to primary schoolchildren, project workers and, twice a week, elderly people who live alone. In total, they prepare some 51 000 meals each year.
Staff from the prefecture noted that the Alsace region is receiving €127.6 million from the ESF for the 2007-2013 period; and this has helped finance over 1400 projects to improve employment and social needs.
