Better patient care

Malta invests in its health workers’ skills to improve patient care

New mothers and patients returning home from a period in hospital will soon see a higher level of care in Malta.

A EUR 770 000 ESF-supported project has just started with the aim of training nurses and midwives in the process of ‘patient discharge planning’. The training, involving ‘job-shadowing’ and a theoretical course, will be undertaken both locally and in hospitals in Northern Ireland. Planning patients’ discharge and subsequent care will mean shorter stays in hospital and lower risks of readmission.

The Maltese Ministry for Health believes this will lead to more professional health workers, better health services and more satisfied patients.
