Young European professionals shine at the WorldSkills competition in Germany

On 7 July 2013, the 42nd WorldSkills competition came to a thrilling end at Germany’s Leipzig exhibition centre. The week-long event brought together the finest young professionals in skilled trades and technologies from 52 countries/regions.

Over four days, around 1000 competitors with expertise in 46 different skills – ranging from graphic design technology to CNC machining – vied for the gold medals and awards. Total attendance numbered over 200 000 and the roar from an enthused international crowd filled the arena with every medal announcement. The host country Germany won a total of nine medals: two gold, four silver and three bronze medals. The overall winner was South Korea with a total of 23 medals.

WorldSkills Leipzig 2013 was funded by the German government, the state of Saxony and the European Social Fund. The next event will take place in Brazil in 2015.
