Greece mobilises ESF funding to offer unemployed seafarers new skills and careers
With one of the world’s largest shipping fleets by ownership, Greece provides many seamen and women to crew these ships, from cooks to captains and commodores. The profession is now getting a €10 million boost with ESF help.
Some €6 million is available for continuing education for unemployed sailors – offering opportunities to upgrade skills and get new ones in areas such as ship automation and security technologies. And €4 million is available for sailors who want new careers – offering training, consultancy and help in setting up their own businesses on land.
