‘Disability is not an obstacle to study’ is the motto of a new ESF project in Lithuania
The State Study Foundation of Lithuania is encouraging students with disabilities to seek higher education opportunities and qualifications as part of the project ‘Availability of Studies to Students with Special Needs’. Thirty-six Lithuanian schools of higher education have teamed up to create a favourable learning environment for people with disabilities and over 100 teachers are taking training courses to help them.
With ESF co-funding, this semester about 700 students with disabilities will receive paid scholarships and the schools are getting the specialised software and hardware disabled students need. This includes adapted workplaces in libraries for those with mobility or sight problems and equipment for deaf students in lecture rooms.
