An employment scheme for young people in Wales exceeds all expectations
A 96% success rate for graduate employment is the headline figure so far for a flagship youth employment programme in Wales (UK). Thanks to the ‘Jobs Growth Wales’ initiative, which is co-funded by the ESF, a total of 9345 jobs have been created so far, and 7748 of these places have gone to young people. Even better, the figures show that these are sustainable jobs in most cases.
The six-month training and guidance provided under the scheme is divided into strands, such as graduate, private and voluntary sectors. The ‘self-employed’ strand has also exceeded targets with 173 young people going into business on their own. Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology Ken Skates said: “These figures show that we are exceeding all expectations. Such is the success of Jobs Growth Wales we have governments across Europe taking a keen interest in the scheme."
