Charleroi invests in the skills of women to improve employability
In the Belgian city of Charleroi, 25 cheerful women have just received diplomas that they hope will lead to work and a better future. They had all taken part in ESF-supported training courses organised by the city's social welfare centre, including in homecare skills and a new course in the retailing skills needed in supermarkets and shops.
For this new course, six of 11 participants have already found work, including Lucrèce – a mother of three children – who found a permanent job in the shop where she completed five months' work experience. The success seen so far is leading the project organisers to widen the array of courses on offer to cover other sectors where skills are in demand in the city.
