A social enterprise for disabled job-seekers wins award for excellence
An award-winning social enterprise which supplies environmentally friendly car-cleaning services while offering work and training to disadvantaged people has won a top international award.
From Cornwall in the UK, ‘Future Clean’ won joint first place in the REVES Excellence awards 2013 in Brussels on 7 June. The ESF co-funded Future Clean is run by Pluss, a social enterprise that supports thousands of people with disabilities and other disadvantages into employment every year. Participants are given six-month paid placements with the aim of then moving them on into sustained employment externally.
Rod Burnett, Pluss Development Manager, said: “The key to the model’s success is in the variety of tasks the employees undertake, enabling them to develop those key skills which are most valued by employers: customer service, time-keeping, money handling, team work, leadership, initiative development, confidence, assertiveness and decision-making.
