Giving youth a chance

Greece announces 75 000 jobs for young people in 2014 with ESF support

“In 2014, we will kick off with 75 000 job opportunities for young people,” announced the Greek Minister for Labour, Ioannis Vroutsis. The Minister was speaking in Athens at the opening of the conference entitled ‘European Social Fund – Preparing the 2014-2020 programming period’.

The job positions referred to are part of a programme aimed at young unemployed people. It will offer 15 000 places in tourism, 10 000 in the agri-food sector, and the rest will be allocated across other sectors through employment agencies. Minister Vroutsis also referred to positive signs of rising recruitment in early 2013, with a 25% increase in new jobs and fewer redundancies. Overall, he noted, the ESF in Greece will invest some EUR 4 billion, major amounts of which will be devoted to youth employment and combating social exclusion.
