ESF funding has been cleared for activities, including early childhood education and social work, aimed at improving the lives of Slovakia’s Roma population.
The Praktik project has trained almost 200 youth professionals and volunteers from the Prešov Region in coaching, mentoring, experience-based learning and team work.
A total of 2706 teachers, psychologists and tutors at 200 Slovakian primary school have so far completed training programmes intended to foster the inclusion of marginalised Roma communities. A further 1500 will follow suit before the end of the ESF-funded project in October 2015.
The European Commission has adopted the Slovakian Operational Programme "Human Resources" for the implementation of the European Social Fund (ESF), the Youth Unemployment Initiative (YEI) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the period 2014-2020.
The programme ensures investment in strengthened institutional capacity and effectiveness as well as an effective judicial system and increased law enforceability.
On 20 June 2014, the Commission adopted the Partnership Agreement with Slovakia, paving the way for some €2.2 billion (current prices) in European Social Fund (ESF) funding in the next seven years.
