The ESF in Hungary is guiding schoolchildren towards successful career-planning choices with a mobile volunteer force
In Hungary, a career-planning project for schoolchildren has proved so popular that it is being extended. Key to its success is its mobility – whereby expert volunteers travel to schools so that young people can take part within their local educational environments. During ‘career days’ the volunteers meet undecided schoolchildren and give quick, simple and personal advice on career options and the training and qualifications needed to realise them. The project is run by the MediaGo Foundation with ESF support. Since 2012, the project has visited 49 schools in the Central Hungary region – advising some 3445 students. In addition, a further 1130 young people visited careers stalls for personal consultancy outside their schools. The high demand for the project’s services means that more schools will be visited and more students targeted than originally planned at the outset.
