Latvia is using ESF funding to ensure new and potential employees will be better protected from accidents at work
Young Latvians are getting the chance to learn more about safety at work and the employment laws that affect them. A new ESF project entitled ‘Practical application of laws on employment and occupational safety in industries and companies’ aims to reduce the relatively high number of new workers who are involved in workplace accidents – some 33% overall. The government has found that people less than a year in the job fall into this high-risk group as they have the least awareness of the dangers and legal requirements. So the project will offer them training on safe working methods, risk factors for health and the legal framework. The project is aimed at 13-25 year-olds and has funding of LVL 3.37 million (EUR 2.36 million).
