Successful ESF pilot project is rolled out across South-West Britain

Of the latest 15 participants in the ‘Smart Savings’ retail course in Liskeard in Cornwall, all have gone on to find work or further work experience. The training course was originally tested in an ESF co-funded pilot project, and the success of that pilot led directly to 20 more being rolled out across the Devon and Cornwall region by theJobcentre Plus employment services. The key to a 100% success rate lies in the close co-operation between Jobcentre Plus and shops and stores in the region – understanding their recruitment needs and providing job-seekers with exactly the skills required. For the 15 participants in Liskeard, this meant working closely with the new local supermarket and using the company’s own training materials to deliver skilled and motivated new employees.
