Latvia is using ESF funding to support rehabilitation and social care for the vulnerable
In the city of Livani, the authorities are using ESF funding to provide social care and rehabilitation services to a range of groups who might otherwise suffer social exclusion. People with physical disabilities, retired citizens and those approaching retirement with a range of chronic complaints can receive professional help – including physiotherapy, ergo-therapy, social care and psychological support – all of which is provided by the city’s Social Rehabilitation Department. While many activities take place in a day centre, services are also available in surrounding rural communities; and if necessary free transport is laid on. In the first year of operation, some 162 citizens received help, and the original target is likely to be exceeded in the coming years.
