A partnership between a Superliga football club and a local employment agency is helping the unemployed in Denmark.
The ‘Against All Odds’ project is located in the northern town of Hobro. The employment agency has access to the football club’s sponsors and presents them with opportunities to hire new staff.
Hobro IK was recently promoted into the top tier of Danish football. Every two weeks their sponsors meet with unemployed candidates. The participants are enrolled in an introduction course at either the club or a sponsoring company. This course lasts for four weeks. At the end of this period, employers can hire the participant if it is a good match. There have been 37 participants so far, and 15 have been given jobs at the end of their course.
The project is co-financed by the European Social Fund, which is contributing EUR 400 000 to a total fund of EUR 1 million.
