Reinforcing the coordination of the employment and social services in Spain: experiences and new opportunities

08/12/2016

Following a recent seminar with Spanish representatives from each of the regional public employment and social services, the ESF implementing bodies and from the central administration, a report provides the main conclusions for a better coordination of the employment and social services in Spain.

The seminar on "Reinforcing the coordination of the employment and social services: experiences and new opportunities" aimed at:

  • sharing good practices and experiences from several Spanish autonomous regions as well as from across Europe in the coordination between employment and social services,
  • exploring new opportunities based on practical examples.

The seminar conclusions give an overview of the challenges and possible solutions identified by participants. All stakeholders agree that stronger coordination between employment and social services is needed to provide effective transitions between social support schemes and employment. Enhanced coordination will also allow a broad range of services to answer the needs of very diverse job seekers. Persons may face multiple barriers along their path towards employment, such as for instance insufficient basic social skills, family responsibilities, health issues, excessive debt, or housing problems.
