In Lithuania, the ESF is supporting work placements that benefit the environment
The Lithuanian Labour Exchange aims to offer work experience to some 34 000 unemployed people through its ‘Temporary Employment’ project. This year, over 10 000 have already taken part – creating a better environment by helping renovate orphanages, schools and hospitals. In the Siauliai and Vilnius districts, they also helped clean up cemeteries, parks, beaches and river banks – while finding the time to plant over 44 hectares of trees in new forests. So far, some 20 000 unemployed people have already participated in this project – of whom 2 685 have found permanent jobs – and another 13 000 participants are expected over the next eight months. Employers receive subsidies for taking on temporary workers, and the project is part of Lithuania’s drive to boost employment and social inclusion.
