An informal approach

Slovakia uses ESF funding to boost ‘informal learning’ among young people to improve their job prospects

To better prepare young people for the difficult transition from school to workforce, the Slovak Youth Institute has launched the nationwide ‘PRAKTIK’ project. As its full name implies – ‘Practical Skills Through Informal Education in Work with Young People’ – the project is supporting those who work with the young by training them in informal learning methods that can contribute to improved social inclusion and equality on the labour market.

Seven thematic regional centres are training local youth workers and youth leaders in topics such as multicultural issues, talent seeking, ICT, traffic safety and environmental protection. They are learning how to develop and implement activities relevant to working with young people, how to use informal learning methods through practical activities and how to transfer the know-how gained from the project to others.
