Certificates for creative careers

In Northern Ireland artistic jobseekers are getting the formal training and qualifications that open pathways to work

In the City of Londonderry in Northern Ireland young people from all over the ‘Derry’ region received certificates for taking part in the Artskills project; where they acquired a range of valuable skills that improve their employment prospects in the creative industries. Co-funded by the ESF, Artskills offers training in areas such as digital photography, web design and creative writing among others. Some participants have already found jobs, while others are using their skills in freelance design or writing their first novels. The award ceremony in early March was followed by a careers event where workers in the creative sector gave advice on how to secure jobs based on the Artskills qualifications. Project coordinator Emma Jane Logue praised all of those who received certificates and added that she was excited at having added a careers day to this year’s ‘Artskills’ project. “The careers day is a new approach for the ‘Artskills’ project, it has helped to address the all-round experience of the participant from when they join to when they leave the programme”, she explained.
