With ESF support, Spanish region launches a service to boost employment and social inclusion among deaf people
In the Spanish region of Cantabria, the Federation for Deaf People (FESCAN) is using ESF support in a project to boost the job prospects and social inclusion of people suffering from hearing disabilities. The project employs technical and administrative staff, along with journalists and sign-language specialists who work closely with regional associations for the deaf. Training and skills development among deaf people are major activities, while creating networks with regional employers is another. The project is also building a resource network between the regional associations to promote co-operation, in particular with municipalities, to remove barriers to participation; and to organise events such as workshops and recreational activities.
