Stepping up skills in the Czech Republic

23/06/2017

An ESF funded project aimed at helping employees learn new skills is in high demand in the Czech Republic.

Employers have submitted almost 1 500 requests for their staff to take part in the project. The majority of the submissions have come from the Moravia-Salesian, South Moravian and Ústecký regions, along with the capital Prague.

As many as 45 000 employees will have the opportunity to learn new skills, with language and IT classes among those on offer. The Minister of Labour and Social Affairs sees education as crucial to helping existing employees keep their jobs. With the classes in high demand, preference is given to small sized businesses and employers from economically disadvantaged regions.

The project is co-financed by the European Social Fund, which is contributing over EUR 90 000 000. Another EUR 10 000 000 is being provided by participating employers.
