In Lithuania, the ESF is helping integrate adults who were orphans into the labour market
Research shows that adults who were orphans can find it more difficult to get a job, and indeed this group has higher-than-average unemployment levels. In Lithuania, several thousand young adults leave orphanages each year. To help this group, the town of Trakai has launched a project – with ESF support – to improve their job prospects. Participants receive four months of training in a variety of practical skills – such as bee-keeping and carpentry – given by specialists in the field. In addition, the 48 participants will receive career counselling and help with social skills to improve their integration.
