In Austria, help is on hand to improve the health and well-being of nurses who work in the difficult geriatric care field

In the city of Bregenz, the women’s information centre FEMAIL has launched a project to help women health professionals cope with the many pressures that are part of their daily work. Aimed at geriatrics nurses working in old-people’s homes in the Vorarlberg region, the project is using ESF co-funding to help them deal with their difficult working environment and keep themselves fit and healthy in their work and daily lives. Workshops on nutrition, exercise and lifestyle are on offer, as are training and coaching where needed. Better working conditions and childcare matters are also integral to the project. “In the field of nursing, this area makes very high psychological and physical demands [on nurses],” explained provincial government minister Greti Schmid at the project launch in March.
