The fruits of training

With ESF help, ten young unemployed people are training as fruit farmers in the Rioja region of Spain

Unemployed young people in the Spanish Rioja region are getting the chance to acquire specialist agricultural skills as part of a programme offered by the El Manzano Crafts School. In the year-long course, ten students are receiving theoretical and practical training in the field of fruit-growing to improve their job opportunities. The school was visited by the Regional Minister for Employment, Javier Erro, and the Mayor Yolanda Preciado, who are providing co-funding along with the ESF for the courses and a EUR 479 monthly salary for each student. As well as practical work in a local orchard, the course also includes training in computer skills, environmental awareness and safety at work.
