Recent immigrants are getting practical help and training in Swedish municipalities

In Sweden the municipalities of Katrineholm and Vingåker are helping first-generation immigrants to prepare for the jobs market in the ‘Own Force’ project co-financed by the ESF. Foreign-born residents often face difficulties in getting jobs – so the project is offering coaching, training courses and Swedish language skills to maximize their opportunities. Around 60 participants at a time will participate in the project each six months, up until the end of 2014.The goal is for 70% of them to go on to work or further training, or set up in business for themselves. The organizers recognise that this target will be difficult to reach in the current climate, however the participants will certainly be better placed to meet the economic upswing, they believe.
